New requirement: alternative text for figures and visual materials
To support digital accessibility and in line with European accessibility requirements, including the European Accessibility Act, JAMRIS will require alternative text (alt text) for all figures and other visual materials in manuscripts prepared for publication from 1 July 2026.
Authors are asked to provide alt text for all figures, diagrams, charts, photographs, screenshots, maps, and other visual elements included in their manuscripts.
Alt text should briefly describe the essential content and purpose of the visual material. It should not merely repeat the figure caption or start with “image of” / “picture of”. For complex figures, diagrams, charts, or multi-panel visual materials, authors may also provide an optional long description.
